Position Title: Advanced Product Development Engineer, N.A.

Location: Yellow Springs, Ohio

Vernay is searching for an experienced Advanced Product Development Engineer to join our Yellow Springs, Ohio R&D Team. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted engineering position which will task you with conceiving, creating, and validating the performance of Vernay’s new products. Job Scope:

You will have the unique opportunity to use both your analytical and creative sides. The Advanced Product Development Engineer position requires thorough application understanding combined with software predictions (FEA, CFD), then analyzing product performance (virtual and/or actual) to identify feasibility. The role offers an extremely diverse, challenging and satisfying environment. From discussing a new product with a client’s team to being deeply focused in analytical calculations on air/water flow, to leading and testing the lab build, you’ll be heavily involved in every aspect of bringing new world-class fluid control products to life.


Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

  • Developing fluid control product concepts based on customer input/needs and design criteria (internal and external).
  • Product simulation and prediction of concept performance via Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • New product and technology research, development, and laboratory build/prototyping.
  • Correlating theoretical calculations and predictions with actual laboratory performance.
  • Direct technical communication and interaction with customers.  
  • Strategic initiatives and projects related to expanding internal technology capabilities.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  • Minimum BS in Engineering (MS preferred.)
  • 5-10 years of technical experience in the rubber/plastics industry with knowledge of fluid/structural mechanics.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and technical). 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • 2-3 years working experience using predictive tools and performance simulation modeling (FEA, CFD).
  • Knowledge regarding the development and processing of rubber materials (VMQ, FVMQ, NBR, HNBR, EPDM, IR, IIR, FKM, CR and HNBR) will be very helpful.
