Position Title: Industrial Engineer

Location: Griffin, GA

 

Job Scope:

The Industrial Engineer will be engaged in analyzing and improving manufacturing processes, monitoring factory performance and reporting results.  He or she will be heavily involved in the use and development of shop-floor reporting tools and online, automated data collection.  He or she will be responsible to drive continuous improvement activity which includes identifying improvement opportunities, facilitating team interaction to accomplish goals, and managing specification / procedure changes that result from the improvement activities.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

ERP System Management

  • Ensure setup/modeling of components in ERP system accurately reflects the current state of the manufacturing process in order to drive appropriate product standards, realistic scheduling, and accurate performance metrics.
  • Facilitate the automation of shop-floor reporting systems and machine data collection through collaboration with global systems Project Manager.
  • Collect material data and perform time studies to validate standards and cost estimates for current production parts.

Process Control

  • Work closely with Quality Engineering to statistically validate new processes with a strong focus on identifying and managing process risks.
  • Help develop continuous, online systems to collect machine data and use it to control processes and man/machine interactions.
  • Help develop and rollout SPC tools to improve component process control.  Use data to create online process monitoring tools.
  • Coordinate equipment commissioning activity.  Manage appropriate equipment specification files that document the validated state of the equipment.  Manage equipment change control.

LEAN Manufacturing

  • Evaluate, develop and improve methods of manufacturing to maximize quality and productivity.
  • Support and actively participate in continuous improvement activities to improve quality systems and manufacturing operations, including Kaizen teams, LEAN manufacturing initiatives and 55 programs. 
  • Initiate efforts to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Actively participate in company 5S program and lead 5S improvements as needed.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events involving other department representatives as well as production employees.
  • Optimize machine, equipment and workspace layouts.  Design material handling/staging systems.
  • Use six sigma methodologies to drive large continuous improvement activity with a data driven approach.

 

Work closely with other departments including Quality, Maintenance, NPD, and Materials.  Facilitate teamwork and collaborative communication within the facility.

 

Participate in capacity and capital planning for facility. 

 

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.  Industrial engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience.
  • Medium to high level of computer proficiency.  Understanding of database applications including ERP/MRP tools. 
  • Strong understanding and command of statistics.  Design of experiments experience preferred. 
  • Strong problem solving abilities.
  • Background in component manufacturing environment.  Experience in rubber or plastic molding preferred.
  • Working knowledge of validation processes such as IQ/OQ/PQ or APQP.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt and Automation experience is a plus.
  • Experience with SPC tools such as Gainseeker a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented
  • Extremely organized
