Position Title: Senior Materials Development Chemist, N.A.

Location: Griffin, GA

 

Job Scope:

As a member of Vernay’s R&D Materials Development Team, this position will lead activities focused on formulation and development of new thermoset rubber compound recipes in the direct support of customer applications and internal developments. These activities will be performed in a manner consistent with the company’s strategic plan and the Material Development Departmental guidelines.


Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

  • Develop thermoset rubber polymeric compound formulations which meet both internal and customer requirements, by studying the physical or chemical properties of compounds and ingredients, with a view to determining the quality and stability of such materials.
  • Make compound selection recommendations to internal development teams and participate cross- functionally.
  • Interpreting data and adhering to ASTM guidelines on documentation when recording data, and reporting scientific results. Make sure that data is accurately recorded in accordance to departmental guidelines.
  • Setting the specification for the finished compound formulations, preparing product license documentation, MSDS and Product technical reports.
  • Being aware of, and keeping up to date with, health and safety issues;
  • Validating methods and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry, advanced degree preferred.
  • Continuing education training in design of experiments with familiarity in Multivariate Analysis, Response Surface Designs, Mixture Designs and Screening Designs.
  • 3-5 years’ experience (minimum) in the formulation and processing of polymeric rubber materials based on NBR, HNBR, EPDM, IR, IIR, FKM, CR and HNBR.
