The company maintains engineering and manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and Asia as part of its strategy to provide customers with global reach and local service.  Vernay’s Quality Engineering position will be based in Griffin, Georgia.  The company is searching for an important addition to its team – an experienced, confident Quality Engineer with excellent leadership, communication and problem solving skills.


Position Title: Quality Engineer

Location: Griffin, GA


Job Scope:

Responsible for the maintenance and continual improvement of the ISO/TS 16949 quality system.  Utilize the quality system to implement improvements, corrective and preventative measures, reduce the cost of poor quality and the associated risks for both Vernay and its customers.  Work in a team with safety, manufacturing engineers, product engineers and production employees to maintain best-in-class manufacturing for the medical device marketplace. 


Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

  • Develop, evaluate, troubleshoot, improve and document manufacturing processes with a focus on quality, productivity, cost and process control.
  • Primary customer interface for all quality related issues
  • Conduct Quality training for manufacturing employees.
  • Create and update appropriate APQP documents
  • Provide appropriate PPAP submissions for new products or process changes
  • Conduct appropriate studies (i.e. Gauge R&R, CpK, Kappa, etc.) to ensure capability of measurement processes
  • Review and disposition changes to customer and quality system documents
  • Ensure that quality systems comply with customer quality system requirements and 3rd party certifications.
  • Take the lead in assuring that internally and externally driven corrective and/or preventative measures are completed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Establish appropriate operational definitions (i.e. visual standards, etc.) to differentiate between acceptable and rejectable product
  • Disposition product when standards are unclear.
  • Build appropriate statistical tools (i.e. SPC) and response plans into the quality system to drive down process variation
  • Lead efforts to implement zero defects strategies
  • Ensure that appropriate audits are conducted ensure compliance to the documented quality system
  • Provide quality system training for new and existing employees, as appropriate
  • Initiate activities to drive down the cost of poor quality and reduce risk for Vernay and customers
  • Reduce or eliminate waste in the quality system
  • Manage and report appropriate quality system metrics
  • Receive, document, and respond to customer complaints and concerns in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Compile, review, and submit process capability and other reports to customers, as required.
  • Manage the calibration of process gauges
  • Serve on the local leadership team to maintain a safe working environment, service customers, and implement the strategic plan and local objectives.
  • Actively participate in 5S program by achieving and consistently maintaining 3S in personal work area.  Participate in rotating 5S schedule as auditor for local facility and owner for local common areas. 


Education, Experience, and Skills Desired:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field (mechanical, chemical or industrial, electrical, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5+ years experience in automotive component manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge in SPC, ISO 9001 and ISO/TS16949
  • Proven Problem Solver; Demonstrated ability to determine true root cause
  • CQE Preferred
  • Knowledge of rubber, LSR, or plastic molding preferred
