Position Title: Vision Systems Engineer

Location: Griffin, GA


The Scope :

The Vision Systems Engineer is responsible for researching, simulating, designing, programming, troubleshooting and implementing vision systems to reduce labor content in injection molding, finishing and inspection operations.  He/she will work closely with the North American New Product Development and Operations teams.  The role supports U.S. facilities in Griffin and Milledgeville, GA, and networks with global facilities in China, the Netherlands, & Italy to promote best practices across the company.  The Vision Systems Engineer will lead a global "Vision Team" working to share experience and promote technology throughout the company.  This position will report to the VP of Engineering.


The Vision Systems Engineer will work with a team on the electrical and mechanical design of automation for performing vision inspections.  He/she will train technicians and operators on the use and maintenance of the equipment, will create specifications and negotiate with vendors to obtain acceptable project proposals, and prepare capital justifications for obtaining project approvals.  The role includes management of automation projects from start to finish including the handoff to production.  It also includes documentation for operations, setup and training manuals.  The role is hands-on and encompasses a high level of responsibility. 




Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, electronic or software engineering
  • Five years' experience in industrial automation and vision systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.  Ability to dissect a problem and develop practical and creative solutions.
  • Experience with PLC, Micrologix, Wago, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, SLC, RSLogix, RSLinx, PanelView, Controllogix, UltraWare, ORMEC, DeviceNet, Profibus, Ethernet I/O, Beckhoff and other automation languages.
  • Working knowledge of high-level programming languages such as Intelligent Actuator XSEL, Visual Basic, IAI robot system, etc.
  • Proven track record in engineering leadership as well as the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices providing detailed documentation upon project completion.
  • Experience using cameras to find specified dimensional and attribute defects.
  • Experience with camera selection and lighting design.
  • Six sigma Green or Black Belt experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to Vernay's other facilities worldwide.
