Production Manager

Job Scope

The Production Manager in Oldenzaal is responsible for the overall effectiveness and performance of operations. The main objective is to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products at the lowest possible cost. The Production Manager is a member of our local management team; the direct reports are 6 Shift Managers, a Process Engineer, a Manufacturing Engineer, and the Manager of the Technical Department.


Primary Responsibilities/Essential Skills


  • Co-responsible for the management and performance of the site in the Netherlands. Reports directly to the managing director.
  • Ensure all production activities are carried out safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Build and execute a long-term vision to maintain skills and knowledge across all levels of the production team, ensuring employee satisfaction and low absenteeism.
  • Lead by example, inspiring and motivating (direct) reports to transition from an executing culture to a learning/performing culture.
  • Cascade the annual budget targets within the production team. Define and execute plans to realize the agreed targets. Monitor, report, and steer progress using relevant KPI’s to measure effectiveness and efficiency, such as OEE, OTIF, MTTR, MTBF, etc.
  • Strong presence at the Gemba, challenging the organization to continuously improve processes and reduce the 8 wastes of Lean, securing profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in the Global Lean Team by implementing and maintaining the lean principles, such as 5S, Kaizen, and Cellular Manufacturing.
  • Implementing proper shopfloor management to boost performance, providing clarity using visual aids, and ensuring clear accountability.
  • Interact with NPD and Sales in an early stage of Advanced Product Quality Planning, ensuring new product launches are meeting the requirements to guarantee success from the Standard Operating Procedure to EOP.
  • Business Process Standardization with other sites within the Vernay Group.
  • Lessons learned from quality issues enable learning from mistakes made.
  • Initiate and lead OPEX and CAPEX projects, ensuring state-of-the-art operational conditions. Optimize the use of available resources within the machinery.
  • To be a sounding board for employees, know what’s going on in the workplace, and actively participate in projects and improvement issues within the organization.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Operations Management, (Mechanical) Engineering, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry with mass production.
  • Experience in the rubber or plastics industry is a strong advantage.
  • The Lean green belt is a plus.
  • Solid technical background, able to understand and detect potential in manufacturing processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment with progressive responsibility.
  • Proven experience implementing lean manufacturing principles and shopfloor/performance management.
  • Experience in the automotive sector is a strong advantage.
  • Strong leadership skills with a coaching and empowering style: people-oriented and results-driven.
  • Ability to translate strategy into action and guide teams through change,
  • Analytical and pragmatic, with a strong focus on performance and development.
