The Vernay VoltaVent® is more than just a component; it’s a commitment to safety, performance, and sustainability.

[Griffin, Georgia] – Vernay has received the prestigious Silver Award in the Smart Transportation Battery Solutions Category of the 2024 Edison Awards for their groundbreaking work in developing the Vernay VoltaVent®, a pioneering battery ventilation device designed to enhance safety and efficiency in battery systems.

The Edison Awards, established in 1987, are renowned for honoring breakthroughs in new product development and innovation. Named after the legendary Thomas Edison, these awards recognize those pushing the boundaries of possibility. The Silver Award win places Vernay among a distinguished group of finalists, all selected by a panel of esteemed peers, including top executives, academics, and innovation leaders from around the globe. This recognition is a reflection of the team’s hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of innovation that makes a difference.

The Vernay VoltaVent® marks a significant advancement in battery technology, addressing critical needs in energy storage and safety. By intelligently managing the internal pressure of the battery pack at critical moments, such as during thermal runaway, VoltaVent® swiftly vents hot gases to prevent explosions and then reseals. This innovative flow control solution approach enhances the safety of battery-operated devices and extends their operational life and reliability.

“We are tremendously honored and proud to share that Vernay’s patented VoltaVent® has received the 2024 Silver Edison Award,” said Bob Ferguson, VP of Global R&D. “This award acknowledges the remarkable engineering innovation of VoltaVent® and the teamwork in place here at Vernay. Collectively, this project is a shining example of Vernay’s global technical capabilities, culture of innovation and cross-functional development efforts.”

“The Vernay VoltaVent® is more than just a component; it’s a commitment to safety, performance, and sustainability,” said Andy Woodward, VP of Sales & Marketing. “For Vernay, this award represents who we are as an organization – always striving for the best in innovation and collaboration.”

Inspired by Thomas Edison’s legacy, Vernay remains committed to anticipating future challenges and developing solutions that shape a safer, more sustainable future.
