Combination check valves combine an umbrella inlet valve with a duckbill outlet valve. The VA3117 design is a general purpose combination valve with high umbrella cracking pressure to prevent flow-through below a design pressure.

Materials of Construction

  • Part Number: V119510100
  • Material Number: VL1704Z6
  • Material Type: EDPM
  • Material Color: Black

Design Characteristics

Working Principle

One use is as a single elastomeric part serving as both valves for a reciprocating pump. Another use is as a simple 2-port, bi-directional valve with different vent pressures in each direction. Examples of applications are venting for car lighting and for gearboxes.

Mounting Instructions

Combination valves snap into a plate using an undercut in the rubber. This plate may also have features to keep the umbrella inlet area separate from the duckbill outlet. Please contact Vernay to obtain a seat drawing for this design.

Performance Characteristics

Opening Pressure

Duckbill Side Diagram
Umbrella Side Diagram
Definition

Opening Pressure is defined as the differential pressure at which the forward flow through the valve reaches the flow threshold. Opening Pressure will increase as the flow threshold is increased, and will decrease as the threshold is decreased.

Reverse Leakage

Duckbill Side Diagram
Umbrella Side Diagram
Definition

Leakage, or flow in the reverse direction, is measured while increasing the backpressure across the valve, starting from zero. Please note that leakage graph is on a different scale from those of flow.

Forward Flow

Duckbill Side Diagram
Umbrella Side Diagram
Definition

Flow and differential pressure are measured simultaneously while increasing the inlet pressure, starting from zero. After reaching a maximum flow, the pressure is reduced to zero while measuring flow and differential pressure. The chart shows the minimum and maximum flows measured during the tests of multiple samples at each pressure.
